Procedural Magnesia was developed as part of the doctoral research of Marie Saldaña at the University of California, Los Angeles from 2010-15, and was revised during postdoctoral fellowships at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and Rice University from 2015-18. Marie Saldaña earned her M.Arch. degree (2010) and Ph.D. in architecture (2015) at UCLA. The primary focus of her work is the interrelationship of geography with social history and the built environment. More information on her current projects can be found on her website.

This project is indebted to the expertise and guidance of Diane Favro and Chris Johanson (Experiential Technologies Center, UCLA). Orhan Bingöl, director of the excavation at Magnesia at the time of this research, provided valuable insights and generously shared site drawings and other data.
